Buying karate uniforms (gi) for your child can be a difficult task if you’re not careful. Here are 3 common mistakes parents make when choosing a karate gi for their child:

Buying A Uniform That’s Too Large

This goes with the mindset of “buying a larger size of clothing so my child can grow into it”. This may be alright for regular street clothing and pajamas, but for karate it could be cumbersome. Karate is a physical martial art, so you do not want an oversized uniform to get in the way of your child while they’re performing karate moves in class. Choose the right size uniform and your child will learn and enjoy class much more.

Not Consulting With The School Policy

While uniforms for karate that are colored may look visually attractive and tempting to purchase, it may not be allowed in your child’s karate school. Consult with the staff of the school to see if colored gi’s are allowed to be worn.

Buying A Tae Kwon Do Uniform!

Although a uniform used for karate may look the same as a Tae Kwon Do uniform to the untrained eye, they’re very different to someone who practices karate. Check with the supplier to make sure that the uniform is indeed meant for karate and not any other martial art.
