3 Tips For Mastering Karate Moves And Techniques
When you first start practicing karate, even the basic karate moves seem difficult. It seems as though you’re performing the same karate training drills over and over again, but you don’t seem to be improving. But with a little patience, and a few training tips, your karate techniques will resemble those black belts training in the advance karate classes.
Tip 1: Practice, Practice, Practice
Repetition is the mother of all skill, and this applies to karate techniques too. You have to keep on performing the same moves during the karate drills in order to hard-wire the movements into your brain. Keep in mind that it’s not “practice makes perfect”, but it’s “perfect practice” that makes “perfect”. When you’re doing the training drills in karate class, don’t get sloppy! Always aim for perfect technique each and every time.
Tip 2: Develop Your Physical Fitness
You can perform all the karate techniques you want, but if your body gets tired, your martial arts moves are going to get sloppy. Exercise your muscles, heart, and lungs to build the stamina necessary to execute repetitive karate techniques.
Tip 3: Understand The Techniques
It’s great if you can execute karate techniques in perfect fashion, but if you don’t understand the techniques itself, you won’t mentally know what you’re doing and why you’re doing it. For example, when you’re punching in karate you should be aiming to hit the target with the knuckles of your index and middle finger. The reason for this is that these knuckles are the largest, and they can deliver the most impact. If you’re performing punching techniques and you don’t understand this, once you hit a target (a board or heavy bag), you might be inclined to hit with whatever knuckles you want, thus compromising the effectiveness of the punch.
