Thinking of Buying Karate Uniforms and Martial Arts Clothing Online?

Before you purchase any Karate uniforms (Gi), make sure that you check with your school and/or Sensei first! Many Karate schools make it mandatory that you purchase their uniforms. The last thing you want is to spend your hard earned dollar for a Karate Gi and find out later that you can’t even wear it to your Dojo. It’s best to avoid this by checking with your school policies first.

However, if it’s alright with your Dojo to wear a Karate Gi that is not from the school, you can find a wide selection of uniforms on the internet. Some people purchase uniforms online because their Dojo does not have their favorite color (in most cases, the color of the Karate Gi is white, but the black karate uniform is used in Kenpo/Kempo Karate). Also, it is easy to purchase Gi’s online and have it shipped to your doorsteps. This is especially convenient if you’re ordering multiple Karate Gi’s and wholesale martial arts clothing equipment for yourself and other students, but you don’t have time to check with your local martial arts supply store to find the right sizes, colors and quantities.

But since you can’t actually try out a Karate Gi if you’re buying online, what can you do???

It’s easy.

First, you can ask your Sensei. They probably spent years figuring out the sizes of Karate Gi’s for many students of various size, age and sex. Your Sensei can probably take one look at you and give you the right sizing of your Karate Gi within a few seconds.

The other option is to check with a sizing chart. The Karate Gi sizing charts are generally pretty accurate. However, as with most clothing, you may have to adjust the arm length and/or the hem the pants of the uniform.

Also, depending on the manufacturer, Karate Gi’s made for North Americans are generally larger, and those made for Asians are a bit smaller (especially the sleeves and the length of the pants).
