When you initially start your karate training, you’ll always learn the fundamental, basic karate moves first. When you learn these techniques, you might be thinking that theses simple punches and kicks and boring, and you might wondering when you’ll learn the fancy karate moves you see in the movies. However, just like mathematics, the fundamentals such as addition and subtraction are essential to learning multiplication and division. And with karate, you’ll need to learn and master the fundamentals before moving onto the advance techniques.

Basic Karate Techniques Are Effective…Even At A Black Belt Level

If you’re planning participate in kumite or sparring, you’ll find out that the techniques they tech you from day one are actually the techniques used during sparring. Some students mistakenly think that once you reach a black belt status, you’ll be throwing fancy kicks and punches all the time. However, if you watch any karate sparring sessions or full contact karate matches, you’ll find that the most effective techniques are the basic moves.

So when you’re in the karate dojo, remember this old martial arts saying:

“I fear not the man who has practiced 10,000 kicks once, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times”
