Is Your Child an Overweight Karate Kid?

Obesity is a major problem for kids today. You may have enrolled your overweight child for karate lessons for them to get in shape, but if you find that even after a few months all you have is an overweight karate kid, then there might be a few problems that you have overlooked. Martial arts and karate for kids is an excellent physical activity, but unless their diet is taken into account, they may not improve in their fitness levels and stay chunky throughout the years.

What is your child eating? If they come home from karate class eating junk food, then all of the calories that they burned off in the dojo will be put right back on. Be sure to monitor what they’re eating and offer them healthy choices when their choosing their foods.

How often are the kids karate classes? If they’re only going once or twice a week, you may need to find a new martial arts club that offers more karate classes, or just simply take them to more karate lessons. Just like exercising in a health club, you’ll need to go on a regular basis multiple times/week to see results. Karate is the same thing.

If you find that your child overweight after taking many martial arts lessons and you don’t know why, ask yourself these questions and you may find the right solutions.
