Karate for kids is an excellent way to instill discipline, teach self defense techniques and keep your child fit. Selecting the right martial arts school with a kids karate program is an important decision involving many factors.

You want to be able to bring your child to a quality martial arts school, knowing that that environment in the karate dojo will help mold them and provide them with a quality martial arts training experience over the long term.

Here are some helpful tips on selecting the right Karate school for your child.

Location of the Karate School

The location of the karate school is one of the most important factors in your decision. If you find a great martial arts school, but the distance is too far to travel, you may have a hard time taking your child to karate classes every week. Regular training is essential in martial arts. If you choose a karate school that is close to your home, you will be able to make sure that your child attends classes regularly, and if your child is old enough, they may be able to travel to the karate school by themselves.

Speak with the head instructor of the martial arts school

Speak directly with the head instructor of the karate school. Ask them what their child will learn, how many students they have enrolled in the school, and how long their karate school has been in business. The last thing you want is to have an incompetent instructor teaching karate to your kids, or having the school shut down when you’ve paid for a year of membership.

Price and Fees

Although price is a major issue when making a buying decision, keep in mind what you’re getting for the price. Also remember the saying, “You get what you pay for.” Just because a particular karate school is cheap doesn’t mean you should sign up. There’s probably a reason why it’s priced so low.
