Karate Pants and the Gusseted Crotch

Karate pants are designed for the rigors of martial arts training. In an activity where you need to open up your legs in the stance or while performing mid to high kicks, you’ll need the right kind of pants. The pants of a karate uniform have something known as a “gusseted” crotch.

Imagine performing karate with regular pants, maybe a pair of khakis or jeans. What do you think will happen after a few classes (or less) in a deep, wide legged horse stance? That’s right, you’ll end up finding a big rip in the crotch of your pants.

To solve this problem, martial arts pants are designed with a diamond gusset crotch which allows greater flexibility, and prevent the seams from ripping while you’re in a deep karate stance or performing martial arts moves in class.
