Karate Sparring Equipment is Necessary!
Many martial arts instructors believe that sparring is necessary to develop the skills learned in karate classes. Performing karate kata’s all day long can make you great at showing your forms, but since everything is prearranged and there is no opponent attacking you, the transfer from kata’s to actually self defense or sparring is minimal. And unlike kata training, when performing any sort of combat activity, karate sparring equipment should be worn for the safety of all participants.
Karate schools and individuals who do no wear karate sparring gear take an unnecessary risk during this activity. Some complain that it feels uncomfortable and unnatural to spar while wearing a head gear or any other martial arts sparring equipment. However, this can be easily overcome with repetition, and in the end, it is much more uncomfortable to end up with a kick to the groin, concussion or missing teeth due to not wearing proper sparring gear.
