Safety Tips for the Karate Kid in your Family

Enrolling your child for kids karate lessons can be an exciting, yet stressful experience. The karate kid (or kids) in your family might think that martial arts is all about fun and games, but as a parent, safety is often the number one concern. Karate for kids is a physical activity, and as a martial art, it can be potentially dangerous. Here are some safety tips for your kids:

Make sure that your kids know to tell an authority if they have a complaint. Instruct them to let the club instructor knows if they’re having any physical problems. Depending on the age of your child, they might just cry out in the middle of a karate class if they happen to scrap their elbow, however, if your child is the shy quiet type, reinforce the fact that it’s okay to talk to someone about any injuries so that it can be taken care of.

Be sure that the karate school has records of any medical conditions your child may have. This is important so that the staff at the karate school knows exactly what their dealing with when working with your child. Be certain that if your child needs medication (such as an inhaler for asthmatics) that it’s available with them at all times.

Lastly, make sure that the karate instructor who is teaching your kids knows about any health conditions your child may have. Even though they may have this information on record, it’s always good to double check with the karate instructor. That way, the karate instructor can monitor the performance of your child and spot any onset of symptoms during the karate class.
